Why You'll Love It?

The Gomersal is Magpie Estate's flagship Grenache and it’s really one that's close to their hearts. Only produced in top quality vintages. This is the third release since 2004. Grenache is sourced from 50+ year old vines grown on sandy soils and blended with 2% of their premium Election Shiraz, which gives extra depth and complexity. 60% of the wine was aged for 22 months in new French oak puncheons (475 lt barrels), the remainder in 3 year old French and American oak. Very elegant grenache that's not overripe or overly alcoholic.

Magpie Estate was started in 1993 as a partnership between legendary Aussie winemaker Rolf Binder and UK wine merchant Noel Young. Their mission was to bring Rhone style wines to Barossa. At a time when Grenache and Mourvèdre was going out of fashion, they brought sexy back. GSM is their 'thing' and boy do they do it well - a great Aussie twist on the classic French blend. Delicious!

Tastes Like?

Lots of red fruit aromas and flavours, red cherries, raspberry and plum with a hint of liquorice. Palate is soft and effortless, super approachable. Fine tannins, full bodied, balance acidity with lovely long finish.
