Why you'll love it?

Tenuta delle Terre Nere belonged to the OG group of winemakers who have come to Etna. Established by wine importer Marco di Grazia - one of the Barolo Boys who helped to introduce Barolo to the US in the 80s and set off the popularity of Barolo. Terre Nere was established in 2002 with over 22 hectares of land. Their vineyards are all located on the northern side of Etna which arguably is where the best plots lie on Etna. But within this area there are sub regions with varying qualities. Whilst all the soils are volcanic soils, some maybe ash, some maybe sand and some maybe basaltic, these all produce very different wines. So different was the results that Terre Nere was one of the first wineries to have single vineyard references on their wine labels in 2002 before this was officially recognised, to express the unique flavours of each sub region. It wasn’t until 2011 that the ministry of agriculture accepted these contradas as sub-regions.

Tastes Like?

This wine has 2% Nerello Cappucio added with 98% Nerello Mascalese. You’ll notice how it’s a little softer around the edges and the colour is deeper in hue from the Nerello Capuccio. To the nose releases notes of red fruits, spices, minerals and mint. Perfectly balanced between volcanic flavor and softness, it is already enjoyable, and already shows an enviable persistence in youth.
