Why You'll Love It?

Franciacorta has long been a popular sparkling option in Italy, but it wasn’t until recent times did it really start to develop its own identity and grow popularity outside of Italy. A younger wave of oenologists like Arcari and Danesi started to question what was it that created these uniform tasting sparkling wines and what they could do to create more expressive wines. For Arcari and Danesi, the journey started in 2006 with very little savings but a whole lot of passion and knowledge. Deciding to make Zero Dosage Franciacorta was a bold move at the time as most people were only producing Brut styles. And these were flying off the shelf- at least in Italy anyway! But the boys really believed it was the added sugar that masked these wines from showing their true identity. Lombardy, unlike Champagne, didn’t really have the natural cold climate limitations that prevented their grapes from reaching full physiological ripeness. What started from a production size of 900 bottles, today they are producing over 15,000 bottles!

How is Franciacorta different to Prosecco (other than the steeper price tag?) Franciacorta is produced using the ‘traditional method’ the same as for Champagne – with a secondary fermentation taking place in the bottle. Prosecco is made using the ‘tank method’, where secondary fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks before bottling - much cheaper production method! Prosecco is also generally produced from the glera grape where as Franciacorta is made from Chardonnay or Pinot Blanc. The Rosés are made from Pinot Nero. The Arcari + Danesi 2012 is produced from 100% Chardonnay. Aged on lees for 31mths, 3-6mths in bottle before release.

Tastes Like?

Loved the freshness of this Franciacorta, minerally with bright acidity. White flowers, peaches and some citrus notes. Perfect Italian sparkling to impress your friends this summer!
